Re: Creation myths Red Turtle Fri Feb 8 01:50:45 2002 *br*just a warning..this is only my thoughts..not "how it is". not that i should have needed to say that, but.....^_^*p*: ~~I am in desperate need of the Celtic Creation *br*: Myth-my friend's writing a *br*: paper on myths and we can't seem to find it *br*: anywhere. Sileas*p**br*i am not an expert on this, but as my understanding goes, the Celts, or atleast the Irish, do not have a Creation Myth per se. what they have of a "Creation Myth " concept is the Book Of Invasions. it is my understanding that our Ancestors held that the world always had existed, then they came along, and now what is left to worry about is evolving. the Book Of Invasions contains within it (or should i say that how i see the Book is that it in its entirety is) the tale of how the three races/ realms of existence came together to create the one being born of all three races and born of all three realms of existence at once...that being is Lugh Lamfhota*br*:*br*: ~~The Theory Of Creation*br*: I have only been stuying Pagan paths for 3 1/2 *br*: years, and have had no *br*: group contact which would have brought up this *br*: subject. What are the many theories of Creation *br*: held by the people here? I don't even want to *br*: hazard a guess. <snip> I need something to *br*: answer my kids questions with. Often I give them a *br*: " some beleive this and others beleive that *br*: " outline so they can choose what works for *br*: them, but I have no fuel for this one. *br*:*br*: ~~I have just one question. Every religion I have *br*: studied has a creation *br*: story, but I have never been able to find one in *br*: the wiccan religion. *br*: I was just wondering if there was one or if it is *br*: up to the individual *br*: because that's what I have been doing. Any answers *br*: for me?*p*i did not spend much time as a wiccan, but i do know a few things about it. and without sounding harsh or rude...the answer i would offer to you is: wicca is not a religion in and of itself. it is founded on old ways, but it in and of itself is not The Old Ways. i see it as akin to America..in the concept of it being a "melting pot". and as such, people come to it from many places, and beliefs come to it from many places..making it what it is.*p*but in offer to your asking about Creation Myths...i used to belong to an ADF grove in upstate new york. we recited a Creation Myth. mind you, it is not Druidic..it is one that a former member of our grove wrote up. we set aside a time in our rituals when i used to recite it. there is an actual original form of this, but i committed it to memery, and as such it changed each time. sometimes the emphasized words were not the smae as the previous time. other times i ended up adding something and/or leaving something out. i no longer have the orignal, so what follows is what flows from me at this moment.....but this is more or less the Creation Myth that a friend wrote for us. *p*" who are we? whence have we come? what is the story of our people? nainse. not hard, that. in the beginning there was a Great Void. around it clouds and mists were spiralling and swirling, swirling and spiralling. and at its center a radiance shone forth, and cast out the surrounding clouds. the solar fire warmed the waters in the Cauldron of Creation, and struck upon it with thunderbolts. and so begat Life. and Life begat the Creatures, and the Creatures begat the Ancestors, and the Ancestors begat Us, the Living People. and like the Great Tree, we stand firmly rooted in the Earth below, ever spanning this Middle-World of Form, and reaching ever upwards to the Sky above."*p*now, this is a thing written for us by a grove member. i can get her name if you want to give her credit if you want to , if you choose touse it (for i think that if you use something, you should credit it if it is not yours orignally..not int he performance of it, but atleast in the places where you keep it, or when you talk about it)...this goes for anyone else for that matter. also, i find it works best when certain areas are highlighted with volume, while other areas should not be so, and if any are interested, i can go into which areas work best with what volumes and intonations.*p*as for Native Creation Myths, i am not sure if you have happened across them, but i have links to a couple different ones. they are all pretty much the same, but there are slight variations from one tribe to the next...or you can jut look up online about Turtle Island.*p*slainte*br*Red Turtle*p*ps- Searles some time ago made a post about Creation Myth. if it cannot be found in the archives, or if he cannot find it (^_^)..i have saved it...though i give him first opportunity to discuss that.
