Pine Cones Taliesin2 Tue Mar 26 09:37:41 2002 Wasn't quite sure where to post this. Yesterday while walking home I found a pine cone. And its was a very unique one. The tips of the cone underneath were naturally white. Yet the tips also have what I'm calling tears (most likely crystalized sap?). I live in N. Virginia, which is famous for its red clay dirt. I am going to assume that the whiteness of the tips is in part from the nutrients of the clay, but I'm wondering if there is a particular genus of pine tree that has cones like the one I described above. Does anybody have feedback on this? And do you have any lnks where I can research pine trees and their pine cones? TIA 205.254.147.8
