Re: Celts and Karma Searles Sun Sep 13 18:20:51 1998 I highly recommend frequent meditation to the level of achieving the "natural state of the mind," so that one can determine from a broader perspective the "rightness" of things. In addition to that, I also suggest just "being-here-now" amid Nature; i.e. being an impartial and unintrusive observer of what is happening in the world around us. This can happen in your apartment or front/back yard, though it is better to get away from the concerns of modern/industrial society. In addition to these practices, I suggest attempting to lucidly dream so that you might journey into other lifetimes and other places to see what works within those worlds and their Natures.*p*I think this is the lesson that I see:*p*"Do not become a Dragon, secreting treasures away from the world, become a Druid and see the world as the treasure it is for everyone."*p*Not many people know that the distinguished anthropologist, W. Y. Evans-Wentz, who wrote "The Fairy Faith in Celtic Countries," also went on in his religious studies to become a Tibetan Buddhist monk and student of Yoga. It is in his later works that we can see some suggestions of how Druids may have approached "Karma," "Right Action," and "the Natural State of the Mind." Some of these books are:*p*"The Tibetan Book of the Dead,"*br*"The Tibetan Book of the Great Liberation,"*br*"Tibetan Yoga and Secret Doctrines."*p*These works are thoroughly commented with a complete set of notes by Evans-Wentz relating the Eastern practices to those of the West and (in some instances) to those of the Druids and Celts. I highly recommend them as an expansion of one's *p*Searles*p**br*Searles wrote,*br*: Karma is a very misunderstood concept. In modern Newage *br*: terms, it is *br*: considered to be actions in this life that repay the wrongs *br*: that we *br*: have done through action or non-action in previous lives. *br*: In my readings *br*: on Karma, Yoga, and Hindu thought, I have arrived at a *br*: different *br*: understanding of Karma. To me Karma is performing *br*: "Right Actions." Celts and Karma Searles 173 Sat Sep 12 13:37:01 1998
