Update on progress: Re. Brehon Laws Aicerno OCathasaigh akiernox_ocasey@hotmail.com Sun Nov 1 13:46:18 1998 Searles,*p* Here are some thoughts I had based on my readings to date. I have divided them up into two groups: problems, situation, and site design.*p*Problems:*p*1. Who would classify as 'nemed' within the Summerlands Community?*p*2. How do we define 'kin' in relation to the Summerlands Community?*p*3. If there is no distinguishable ranls, and all are on equal footing; then waht should be done?*p**br*Situation:*p*I think that the main area of where problems COULD arise is 'contracts'. This is due to the fact that those people who are in charge of each site within the community are in effect 'brithem' for their particular sites. However, a need may arise for a 'suiochan breith' or seat of judgementsfor those conflicts that go beyond the capabilities of the site controllers here, or are related to missed contracts (such as, to use an example, becoming a member of Summerlands and not sending the requisite payments, etc.).*p*In regards to the three above mentioned problems, I ask because in Irish, Welsh, and Celtic Law, Rank and kin are the predominating factors that determine which punishment will be used, what method will be used to bring about a hearing (whether through entry, fasting, etc.), and what fines are to be paid and who pays them.*p**br*Site design:*p* I think the proper location for this site would be on the North end of Summerland, as north is the realm of wisdom. The following trees should be on the Greeting page: Birch, Hawthorn, Blackthorn, Oak, and Yew, and stones with their corresponding Ogham. The subsites are: 'suiochan breith' (seat of judgement) where cases are to be presented, a chat room where the cases will be ruled upon as well as classes being held on the Brehon Laws, a message board for various discussions relavant to the Brehon Laws, and a Library containing both books and internet sites relevant to Irish, Welsh, and Celtic Law.
