Re: Update on progress: Re. Brehon Laws Searles Mon Nov 2 15:01:01 1998 *p*The nemed of The Summerlands would be those who teach or lead as we do not actually have a "noble" class." Our structure should be based upon the work that we can do and the work that we have done IMO. The closest I can see in present day life would be an academic environment, though we can probably see a tripartite division to skills and production based on the military, trade/apprenticeship systems as well. In addition to that aspect, we have to consider what a "family" would be. More later after I've settled in from our trip, finished some technical details in The Summerlands and have participated in our Samhain rituals.*p*We define "kin" in The Summerlands by hearths, fosterage, declaration and affirmation. We also define it by birth and marriage, even by dedication and artisitic affiliation. Maybe people could become or be kin by adding a kin name to their online names?*p*I think everyone is unique within The Sumnmerlands and that we are just now defining how it is that we can accomplish our work together. This is a long term and evolutionary process that will occur through natural growth and the ackmowledgement of necessary relationships as determined by ability and need.*p*Much consideration and evaluationof the social and working structure of The Summerlands before we can implement the laws effectively (or even determine which to keep, which to change and which to leave behind).*p*The physical structure of The Summerlands is set up in much the same way that Ireland is defined by the Seanchaí Fintain in the tale, "The Settling of the Manor of Tara."*p*That is:*p*Battle to the North*p*Prosperity to the East*p*Harmony to the South*p*Knowledge to the West*p*Sovereignty inthe Center.*p*The esoteric aspects should probably follow the qualties of the Ogham and the realms as I've outlined them in my book. I'll post more about this after my head has cleared (which means probably on the coming weekend).*p*Searles*p**br*Aicerno OCathasaigh wrote,*br*: Searles,*br*:*br*: Here are some thoughts I had based on my readings to *br*: date. I have divided them up into two groups: problems, *br*: situation, and site design.*br*:*br*: Problems:*br*:*br*: 1. Who would classify as 'nemed' within the Summerlands *br*: Community?*br*:*br*: 2. How do we define 'kin' in relation to the Summerlands *br*: Community?*br*:*br*: 3. If there is no distinguishable ranls, and all are on *br*: equal footing; then waht should be done?*br*:*br*: *br*: Situation:*br*:*br*: I think that the main area of where problems COULD arise is *br*: 'contracts'. This is due to the fact that those people who *br*: are in charge of each site within the community are in *br*: effect 'brithem' for their particular sites. However, a need *br*: may arise for a 'suiochan breith' or seat of judgementsfor *br*: those conflicts that go beyond the capabilities of the site *br*: controllers here, or are related to missed contracts (such *br*: as, to use an example, becoming a member of Summerlands and *br*: not sending the requisite payments, etc.).*br*:*br*: In regards to the three above mentioned problems, I ask *br*: because in Irish, Welsh, and Celtic Law, Rank and kin are *br*: the predominating factors that determine which punishment *br*: will be used, what method will be used to bring about a *br*: hearing (whether through entry, fasting, etc.), and what *br*: fines are to be paid and who pays them.*br*:*br*: *br*: Site design:*br*:*br*: I think the proper location for this site would be on *br*: the North end of Summerland, as north is the realm of *br*: wisdom. The following trees should be on the Greeting page: *br*: Birch, Hawthorn, Blackthorn, Oak, and Yew, and stones with *br*: their corresponding Ogham. The subsites are: 'suiochan *br*: breith' (seat of judgement) where cases are to be presented, *br*: a chat room where the cases will be ruled upon as well as *br*: classes being held on the Brehon Laws, a message board for *br*: various discussions relavant to the Brehon Laws, and a *br*: Library containing both books and internet sites relevant to *br*: Irish, Welsh, and Celtic Law. *br* Update on progress: Re.
