Re: A Question of Religion and Myth Beirdd Mon May 22 18:44:41 2000 I believe that the difference would lie in the faith of the particular person or in the faith taught by the particular religion. So, as a generic example, your "symbol - metaphor - stories" are myth, since I do not particularly believe in them as divinely revealed matters of utmost importance to the formation of my soul and being. However, *my* "symbol - metaphor - stories," being these things, are not myths, but articles of faith.*p*I suspect that the negative connotations of the term "double standard" are not really appropriate when it comes to discussing a person's spiritual beliefs.*p*There were once two young women sharing the same filthy curb late at night in a seedy part of town. Both had seen equal shares of abuse, misuse, desperation, and sadness. One late evening, a car pulled up to them. The door opened and an older woman reached out to one of them and said, "Let me take you out of here. Come home with me." As the young woman rose from the curb to enter the car, the other one began spitting at the older woman. " Why should you choose her over me?! You are biased! You are prejudiced! You judge me differently!" "Indeed I am and do," replied the older woman, "and I have seen her in a different light ever since I gave birth to her."*p*--Beirdd*p*Taliesin2 wrote,*br*: *br*: Um, can you explain this double standard a bit more?
