Re: Oghams mique Wed Jun 7 19:13:40 2000 the text all the books resource when they talk about the ogham is called the scholar's primer- it is out of print, but the matthews' (john and caitlin) have printed the information about the ogham that appears in the scholar's primer in a book entitled "the encyclopedia of celtic wisdom". there are other books out there that talk about oghams: the celtic tree mysteries- by stephen blamires...searles' soon to be released book (plug, plug)and there are some others that i cannot recall. runes and ogham are different yet similar. the norse and the celts are cousin cultures, and so are the runes and ogham. the ogham is a secret language (kinda like morse code), and there are many types of ogham, but the one people use most is the tree ogham. this system is made of hash marks, crossing a main line to create a symbol/sigil, and each relates to a tree, and the wisdom and magic of that tree. whereas runes are pictograms that represent an idea or concept that all agree represents the magic/ wisdoms of that rune. for example, uruz looks appears as two vertical lines w/ a line across the top angled down to one side. it represents the shoulder muscle of an auroch- an ancient breed of bull(?) that are basically powerhouse animals. uruz means strength. the pictogram is a symbol of that strength.*br* i don't know if i took the roundabout way to answer your question. so in brief.... there are books out there, go to your local pagan bookstore or even barnes and nobles/ or borders( they should order it for you - even if you don't buy it), or you can probly find info throo search engines ( like avatarsearch). i suggest not paying attention to the ogham system in "green witchcraft"- i have not studied it, but it seems much too difficult for what it needs to be. you can cast ogham lots as you would cast runes on the ground, or draw lots from a bag, etc.*br*hope i helped*br*blessings*br*mique Oghams Taliesin2 613 Mon Jun 5 00:57:20 2000
