Re: Pearls Before Swine? Beirdd Thu Aug 10 19:02:46 2000 I personally feel that there are some aspects of humans relating with the spiritual world that are not for the uninitiated because they place souls in danger. As you know, I come from a tradition that, while practicing a ritual that is not a secret, determines that only certain persons may play certain roles. There are many individuals and groups that imitate the Catholic Mass. The Catholic thinking about this is as follows:*p*1-Since the ritual roles are inextricably tied to the ritual action, unsanctioned (in the literal sense of the word) practitioners are going through motions with no positive effect.*p*2-Considering the sanctity with which Catholics hold the Mass, "out-of-the-loop" celebrations of it can be nothing more than parodies and, therefore, are disrespectful of Catholics and their beliefs.*p*3-When ritual is performed as it is meant to be performed, the attention of the appropriate benefactors is gained, and blessings are engendered. When ritual is performed outside of the norm of the faith that has developed it, the attention of others is gained, which could lead to a spiritually dangerous situation.*p*I think it isn't too difficult to apply these three considerations to the question at hand. *p*--Beirdd Pearls Before Swine?
