Another thing to be considered in the analysis of the meaning of qualities to early Irish Celts is that they assigned a lower more earthy meaning to heavier elements and a higher more heavenly quality to lighter elements.*p*This means that something that was connected with a color generally considered to be more physical or heavier would be associated with a lower more base color.  Now some things can be dark and light (such as the night sky), while other things can be lighter but heavy (such as gold for instance).  In our understanding of a traditional color, we must also know why a certain color was associated with a quality through its mundane as well as its esoteric affinities.*p*Black and white can have double meanings.  Black can mean sinister and evil or it can mean strong and powerful.  White can mean pure and prosperous or it can mean empty and shallow.  More often the "brightness" of a color shows it to be associated with the realm of sky (birds generally being brighter that are high flyers, though some birds are darkly colored or also aquatic).  When deriving such associations we get deep into the psyche of a culture and must tread lightly so that we may observe heavily.:-)*p*Searles*br*
