The Spell of Truth

In the stories about the "Bull Dream" that was undertaken by Druids to determine a new king when none had been selected by other methods, it is said that four Druids surrounded a sleeping Druid so that he could dream a prophetic dream about the new king to be.  During the time of dreaming a chant known as the "Spell of Truth" was chanted to ward the dream.  What is meant by "truth?"  What are the possible ways that a chant or a spell could ward the sleeping dreamer?  How would the chanting Druids know if truth was actually protected and insured?  What other societies use such methods and how are they accomplished?*p*Searles
