A Dream Symbol Discussion*p*I responded to a request for understanding of this person's dream on another list and thought I'd post what I've discussed so far here.  Perhaps some of you can help me to better expand the advice I am giving this person and maybe also determine what is valid about the dreams, the questions and the answers. All insights and advice will be greatly appreciated.*p*Searles*p*****p*Dear Tania,*br* *br*It seems to me like it has the orientation of a cross and the numeric value of five.  Maybe the nine women and one man represent elements of yourself and the symbol is representative of where you are and how you are oriented in this world? It seems to me that on a surface level, all the parts of your dream are cosmological symbols, while the transferal of the symbol from one forehead to another, indicates an act of initiation and a giving of wisdom. Since you have been given these signs, perhaps you should use them to seek the answers yourself?  The rest of us can help if you can share more details from the dream, other experiences that might apply or your own subjective impressions.*p*Your dream sounds like to me that you are dreaming the Irish cosmological tale of the Battle of Moytura. This tale is all about the war between the forces of order and those of chaos. Originally, the forces of order had to pay a heavy price in terms of their crops, children and self-respect in order to receive the Magic of growth and creativity back from the sources of chaos. This situation continued until the people of order and skill found a champion who was able to meld within himself all of the arts. This champion was many-skilled and able to overcome chaos even as he was also able to control the nine elements of creation that were his foster fathers. He was also the leader who was able to unify the powers and gifts that the people of order had brought with them to the land. These four treasures were each a gift from Druids to their students. Each was designed to overcome a particular strength of chaos. When all four were used as one then the victory was gained and the mound of sovereignty was raised beneath the leader who symbolized truth in being and a unity of power, order and skill. This unity made him a master over chaos so that he could take its Magic of creation and transmute it from being a potential cause of destruction and change it into a source of growth and prosperity for his people. *p*The symbol on your forehead marks you as a many-skilled student of order and the one chosen to meld the treasures of Druids into a unified skill of transmuting. Your dream is all about mastering the chaos and the shadow within yourself. The keeper of the symbol is your former mastery of self and skill on another plain and in another life and time. The nine and the one are the forms of creation, both self and cosmic creation (which are interlinked). The four and one arrangement of the dots on your forehead is a symbol of the ordering of the treasures of Druids in a unity that worked to serve the self, the people and the land. In so doing, you will have unified a power to create and to destroy within yourself. When and where you do this will be a mark of how you judge yourself (for the shadow is ourselves as much as the light). You will have to learn that an overcoming of fear of self is not enough, but that a mastering of the wisdom to use the powers within is an even greater responsibility. Since you have friends who share your dream along with your many selves and parts, and also because you are able to become lucid and aware within these dreams, it seems to me that you are well along the path to discovering your new life as a Druid. Your natural gifts and skills are springing out of a point of your personal development where you will have the ability to create and to destroy. You seem to be doing well in these first tests within your dream existence. However, your confusion about the dream within this existence (the present physical world) in which our advice has been sought can be a mark that you have a lot of mundane study to do.*br* *br*It's not enough to have a raw talent within the inner landscape. It's not enough to have some rudimentary ideas about what the shape of the cosmos is. It's not enough to work with symbols that are abstract or personified within only oneself or one's dream. A Druid can bring wisdom across the barriers between worlds and use the power that flows between chaos and order to achieve mastery in many worlds. I think that being armed with a conscious understanding of the forces within yourself already gives you the ability to master all that is encountered within the world of dreams. What you have sought here in this group is advice and an understanding of how to integrate this dream world mastery into the world of your waking consciousness. I think that studying the tales and the traditions of Celtic culture will show you many examples of how Druids have done this in the past. This knowledge can help you in your present and your future. You will learn techniques that can allow you to enter this dream world while conscious and without sleeping. You will learn to possess a dual attention that allows communication across the barriers between worlds. You can develop skills of manifestation in both worlds by using the treasure of the circles to create and work within every reality. In much of this work, you will be your own teacher, though the Druids of the past, present and future will also be available to you as guides. Master the skills and arts of the present. Study the traditions and culture of the people that you will be serving. Develop the attention, the art of intelligent inquiry and the ability to listen without prejudice, and truth will be within you always. *br* *br*Your dream seems to be about a journey to personal mastery that has begun well. May you serve well in realms of self, family and community. *p* Searles*br* *br*PS: The only part of your dreams that seems a mystery to me is the 21 persons that contain parts of yourself. I'm probably running up against a mental block on this as all that comes to mind is the book called "The Twenty One Lessons of Merlyn." I don't recommend this book as a guide to you in anything practical though it is a great fantasy read. I suspect that you actually have 27 parts that represent the nine elements of yourself within three realms of being. These parts are to be found with the three cauldrons that every person is said to contain. They are the Cauldron of Warming, the Cauldron of Vocation and the Cauldron of Celebration. These represent a mastery of the physical, mental and spiritual parts of us. They each contain three and nine parts that are the interactions between basic qualities in world and within individuals as well. These 27 parts also have an astrological correlation that is sometimes called the Houses of the Moon. The Moon is our inner mind and how she is affected as we sail through the realms of being during the cycles of time and space.
