Three Tenets of Draíocht Searles O'Dubhain Fri Oct 20 11:53:22 2000 Three Tenets of Draíocht*p*Much has been said and discussed about what it means to be a Druid. In my enduring quest to more clearly define the answers to this question, I would like to pose three principle legs as the tenets of Draíocht:*p*Tradition - which is a form of knowledge that is based on the experiences and wisdom of our Celtic and Druidic ancestors in the past.*p*Experience - which is the outcome of our evaluation of the experiences that we come into contact within our present world and society.*p*Inquiry - this is our quest and discernment of what the future can bring to us if we embrace and seek new knowledge and states of being.*p*Let me be so bold as to say that, "They are no Druids who do not learn from the ancestral past, live within the active society of the modern world, while at the same time seeking to discover and promote a better and wiser future for the world."*p*We can find the wisdom of the past by studying the Celtic and Druidic traditions that have survived. We can learn from the modern world in many of the same ways that Druids have always learned: through observation, immersion, study and interaction. We can insure the truth of the future by applying the wisdom of philosophy, science, priesthood, law and poetry to the issues that can be foreseen.*p*If we don't actively integrate all three tenets into our Druidic practice, then I submit that we are unbalanced and falling away from Draíocht itself. How far we can depart from the balance of the three tenets and still remain Druids is a risky undertaking that has seen many a fall into the abyss without a subsequent rising. Perhaps there are tales in the traditions that teach us an answer?*p*Searles*br*
