Re: The Young Son and the Sun's Standing Searles Fri Dec 22 13:39:53 2000 I honor the Mother and the Midwife at this time of year as much as the Young Son and the Father. Each has their own role to play in the ongoing turning of the Wheel.*p*The Mother and the Midwife are Bo/ann and Brighid, and the Dagda is the Father to be honored, as well as the new star on the horizon who is Angus, the Young Son.*p*Let me engage in a flight of creative fancy and consider some possble other ways in recapturing the spirit of this time of the year. We could image the role of the Three Druids (I think that Fios, Eolas and Fochmart would be good names for them), who might have observed that a new Star (or Sun) stood still in the Sky to the East of the open Brugh where the Young Son was born to the Mother. Perhaps their role would have been to observe the Sun touching the heart of his Mother withinthe inner chambers at Newgrange? It is the gifts (and names) of these three Druids of tradition, experience and inquiry that allow any of us to become new in knowledge as light returns to the world.:-) I think a practice of giving three gifts to others would be wonderful to symbolize this rebirth of knowledge within us. I personally think that one gift should be solid and substantial (representing what already is), another can be an activity or a project (representing what we actually do) and the third gift can be something that inspires us (like a game or a good book that makes us think). In this way, we can honor the return of the Sun and its growing light by gifting (and being gifted) with those things that fill our cauldrons and orient our perceptions of the world.*p*In my own practice and observance of the significant days of the year, I honor pair of deities (usually male and female, husband-wife, mother-son, father-daughter, etc.). At Winter Solstice, it is mother-son, or Bo/ann and Angus.*p*Searles*p**br*TopazOwl wrote,*br*: Searles wrote,*br*: : The Young Son and the Sun's Standing*br*: :*br*: : At this time of the Winter Solstice, I honor Angus, the Mac *br*: : ind Oic (the Young Son or the Mabon). *br*:*br*: Do you also honor a goddess? We begin *br*: Brighid's cycle now, which peaks at Imbolc, of course.*br*:*br*: As far as honoring gods at this time, in Keltrian *br*: tradition, we honor the Dagda in his full power as the *br*: Sustainer with his Undry Cauldron.
