Re: New modem installed, working out kinks GreyWolf Sat Sep 12 23:34:53 1998 Hi Black Phoenix and Welcome Back !!!*p*Modem speed is determined by a lot of factors.*p*It could be your setup, and maybe more importantly by your phone lines. *p*I know of many people that have upgraded to 33.6 or 56K modems only to find that their connection speeds only slighly improved or did not change at all. In those cases it has been due strictly to their phone service. It all depends upon your phone lines, the phone company's hardware and what your ISP can really support. *p*For example phone lines are inherently very fast except that they all contain filters which have a definite bandwidth and pass-thru speed, the filters really limit transmission rates, but for the normal phone conversation it just doesnt matter. For PC connections It matters.*p*I have seen some software that can determine just how good or how bad your phone lines are, but for the life of me I cant find it right now. If I find it again, I will post the URL*p*In the mean time - good luck with the new modem and happy surfing.*p*GreyWolf New modem installed, working out kinks The Black Phoenix 109 Fri Sep 11 13:00:25 1998
