Re: Quote of the Day Beirdd Wed Sep 23 20:52:03 1998 Lately, I’ve been recalling a story I once heard.*p*--------------*br*There was a very fine architect who had spent many years in the King’s service, designing and building some of the finest palaces and castles in the world. One day, the King himself called the architect in for an audience. “I want you to build the finest palace ever! Spare no expense! Hire the finest workers! Use the most valuable materials!” the King commanded. And so, the architect set to work.*p*As the palace began to climb into the sky, the architect thought to himself, “Why spend all that money on a house? Why bother with the finest workers? Why not use less costly materials?” So he began to scrimp, hiring less skilled workers and using poorer materials, while pocketing the difference. When the palace was completed it looked magnificent on the outside. Only the architect knew that it was but a shell of magnificence and wouldn’t last very long. And what did he care, having put a large sum aside for his retirement?*p*Shortly thereafter, the King called the architect to the court once again. He announced to everyone his gratitude for the many years of the architect’s loyal service. He praised the many accomplishments that the architect had achieved, not the least of which was the magnificent palace he had just finished building. Finally, the King announced to all that as a reward for his lifetime of accomplishments, the architect would receive the deed to that very palace, which the King had secretly commissioned as a gift to its own designer.*br*-----------------*p*Sometimes, when your life falls around your ears, it’s easier to blame others than to admit that it was all part of your plan.*p*--Beirdd*p* Quote of the Day Deborah 125 Wed Sep 23 16:26:38 1998
