eponess@yahoo.com A Celtic God named 'Bel'? Epona na Donnaigh eponess@yahoo.com Sun Mar 14 12:45:43 1999 Just surfing the web today, when I come across an article about Bealtinne. The article was okay, until I read about the origins. The author claimed that the name meant 'good fire' and was further linked to a Celtic god Bel or Beli, whose name meant 'good' or 'bright'.*p*I've been studying Celtic mythology for years now, and I have never yet come across such a god. Perhaps because I focus on Irish mythology I missed that one. IS there such a god?*p*I also learned that the name of Bealtinne mean literally 'mouth fire' or 'opening fire' to mark the beginning of summer. Am I the only one who has read/heard this?*p*BTW this is the first time I've posted here, although I've often visited and read the articles. Great resource. :>)*p*Beannachtai,*p*Epona http://members.aol.com/eponaworks Epona's Celtic Cauldron
