Because essentially "normal elves" are, on the surface anyway, good and depending on their birth, rated into the three "Society" levels. Dark elves on the other hand are the lowest of the low in this tower of "society" (Even not getting a mention within the tower eg High, middle, and drow). You can probably realise that after thousands of years of being outcast by their fellow peoples have started to dabble in malicious, right through to down right evil majick. This makes the fear of a dark elf something to be affeared of. But unfortunatly I my self have too only heard of these truly nasty little entities, and cannot direct your friend towards a protection for these dreams.
