jennyg@compuserve.com A Book to Look Forward To Jenny jennyg@compuserve.com Thu Jul 8 10:58:38 1999 Hi everyone,*p*Ronald Hutton's next book, on the history of Wicca, finally has a publication date. It'll be titled, _Triumph of the Moon: A History of Modern Pagan Witchcraft_. To be published by the Oxford University Press in March of 2000.*p*For those of you who aren't familiar with him, Dr. Hutton has written a couple of books that ought to be on every Pagan's book-shelf. One is _Pagan Religions of the Ancient British Isles_, the other is _Stations of the Sun: A History of the Ritual Year in Britain_.*p*_Pagan Religions_ is very good, though conservative -- a solid antidote to the excesses of many writers. _Stations_, on the other hand, is splendid. It's easily the finest book available on the history of the holidays. And given how much misinformation is out there, it's a gods-send! (I am so tired of Llewellyn books, which usually contain 2-5 errors per page of "history" and frequently don't even know what days the Pagan holidays were held on, much less what their history was!)*p*So if you don't know why Imbolg and Candlemas aren't the same holiday at all (or if you think Imbolg was celebrated on February 2nd)... if you think that Halloween is Christianized version of Samhain... you ought to read _Stations of the Sun_.*p*Jenny*br*
