Re: Mainstream Religious Mandate Overturned Deborah searles@summerlands.com Sun Sep 12 00:02:04 1999 Very true. I would certainly hope and expect the ACLU to defend the father's Jewish Heritage rights as much as the mother's Christian beliefs. What's sauce for the goose is sauce for the gander. I just hope that the kid doesnt get too confused with the it's ok/it's not ok message adn that the parents sit them down and explain to them that they actually get to make up their own young minds about what they believe when they grow up. Just present the information as each believes it to be (preferably without all the guilt BS if 'you dont believe like I think you should' nonsense that many religions are prone to). My main reason for bringing attention to the situation is to shed light on it so that the next time when it's a case of 'you cant take your own child to your own religion's event if it's not a court approved religion and WE dont approve of none of that there 'Weecan, witchcraft, paganism' mumbojumbo'(or whatever other rude and insulting names they choose to insert into the situation) then our folks might have an idea where to turn for aid.*p*We all hang together or we shall surely all hang separately. <G>*p*Hang in there,*br*Deborah*p**p*Beirdd wrote,*br*: The true test of the justice of this thing will be seen when *br*: the father gets his turn, as noted in the divorce decree, to *br*: "provide religious training to their daughter according *br*: to" *his* faith which, I assume, will include the *br*: traditional Jewish proscription against homosexuality...will *br*: the ACLU leap to his defense when the woman protests?*br*:*br*: All victories come on the blade of a two-edged sword.*br*:*br*: --Beirdd*p* Re: Mainstream Religious Mandate Overturned Beirdd 425 Sat Sep 11 17:15:02 1999
