namdrah@btopenworld.com The Merry Maidens, Cornwall. Alison Buckley namdrah@btopenworld.com Thu Sep 13 18:08:01 2001 My partner Simon, whose email address this is and I visited The Merry Maidens on 2.9.01 while on holiday. It was early evening and the sun cast long shadows from the stones. Simon was taking a few photos and a few other people came and went as I sat leaning on a rock near the circle. The atmosphere was warm and tranquil and I could have sat for hours it was so friendly and peaceful. I started to wonder what the surrounding landscape would have been like at the time of the people who erected the circle, who they were and what language they spoke when I heard a female voice that seemed to come from within me speaking in a language that although I didn,t know it I understood her to say " come and dance with us"; she was softly spoken and friendly. I didn't dance even though I had a strong urge to do so as there were other people about and I would have felt self conscious. I have ancestors from cornwall and commented to Simon "I wonder if any of my relatives ever danced around these stones all those years ago? I don't know if they go back that far but it is an intriguing thought. Has anyone any idea what the old Cornish(celtic) translation is for the words I heard?*br* Yours respectfully,*br* Alison Buckley. 213.122.4.132
