I personally think it is named after the constellation that is held by the "Serpent Bearer" or (one who has conquered the serpents), perhaps Lugh and the Dagda. I arrived at this opinion through a study of Ogham and the Nakshatras.*p*The ninth nakshatra is Ashlesha which corresponds to the Ogham Gort (for Ivy - G). It seems to be in the constellation known in the west as Hydra. I consider this to be The Feasting House of the Fomorii in a reconstructed Celtic zodiac. It is Sarpha (Indian), the Fomorii (Irish), and represents Initiation through Transmutation or Initiation in the Mysteries (Serpents). It can be associated with Poison, Ambition, Trembling and Agitation, a Serpent, or the Approach of the Serpent. *p*It can also mean Fulfillment and Knowledge in its positive aspects. The phase of the Moon when it is near Sarphas (or Gort) determines its positive and negative effects (as well as the season in which this occurs or the cycle of 5 to 19 years).*p*All in all, Sarph is all about the uncertainty and opportunity of beginnings and the rewards that can be had by those who enter the realms of chaos with a unity of purpose and a balance of personal harmony. It is a rite of initiation into the mysteries (if it is survived). Perhaps a symbol of this achievement is the twisted torc that was worn about the neck of Druids and Celts?*p*A very mundane example of this might be found in the first year of advanced study that a person undertakes after their primary and secondary education is completed. Will it be the beginning of wondrous achievements or will it be a downfall of epic proportions?*p*Will the daughter of Ibhor bite the hand that attempts to grasp it?*p*Searles *br* dragon's path daffydd 866 Sun - Jun 22 - 12:31am 66.54.1.38
