Re: Bush: Wicca Not a Religion Searles Wed Jun 30 17:28:33 1999 We must remember that Bush is a politician trying to gain as many votes as he possibly can without compromising too many of his ideals and beliefs. I think he understands what the right thing is but is putting up a smoke screen to deflect the appearance of supporting (what he thinks is) a volatile issue. My friend Jon Keeyes of Ft. Worth posted this to the North Texas Pagan List:*p*"As part of the Religious Freedom and Tolerance Bill which Bush signed into action June 10th, Wicca is covered under this bill. This means that while he may not consider it to be a real religion, he is aware that it is covered by the bill and chose not to fight it."*p*This is saying that Bush voted for freedom of religion while claiming to not know much about Wicca (which is probably a half-truth). Make no mistake about it though, the religious fundamental right would cheerfully do away with Wicca and any other non-Christian religion.*p*Searles*p*Jenny wrote,*br*<snip>*br*: The latest: Governor George Bush of Texas was quoted on *br*: Good Morning America, as saying that he did not believe that *br*: Wicca was a religion, and he encouraged the Army to re-think *br*: its stance.*br*:*br*: The Texas Pagan Awareness link below has more information.*br*:*br*: To contact Gov.
