So any early battle will probably be listed under the name of Bridgewater or North Bridgewater, not Brockton.*p*I couldn't find any references to Revolutionary War battle fought in the town. However Bridgewater and the surrounding area was hard hit by King Philip's War (1675-1676). If you're not familiar with it, King Philip's War was an intense war between the English settlers and most of the Native nations of New England. It was incredibly bloody, and in the end, most of the Native tribes were devastated. (The losses amongst the English were substantial too, and many towns were entirely levelled.)*p*Bridgewater was one of the towns burned during King Philip's War. For more information on this, check out*p*http://www.dickshovel.com/wampa.html*p*It's got great information on the Wampanoag (Philip's nation). And while it doesn't specify exactly where the battle at Bridgewater/Brockton took place, it gives you a good feel for the issues and horrors surrounding the war.*p*Another group that might be able to help you is the Brockton Historical Society, which has a web-page at:*p*http://www.brocktonma.com/*p*Hope that helps!*p*Jenny*br* i need info on mass fairgrounds wolftooth_redhawk 233 Mon Nov 29 22:31:01 1999
