daven@priest.com To be remebered: Daven daven@priest.com Mon Oct 16 17:26:59 2000 If you all would, in your ceremonies this Samhain please remember my grandfather.*p*He died recently (May) and our lives have been more than a bit upset as a result.*p*He died just a few months short of his 80th birthday. Clifford Mason Hobrock was a good man, one who did a lot in his life.*p*Born in the pre-depression era United States, he told me stories about being sent to the food lines during the Depression because his father was too ashamed to go and stand in those lines. Son of a Blacksmith, his father's profession must have affected him his entire life. Grandpa grew up to be an engineer.*p*As such, and with the start of WWII, he joined the Marines and served in the Pacific theater, on such places as Iwo Jima and so on, usually in a support role rather than the front lines. He was an instrument maker for the Military, working on such things as the altimiters for the planes they had. In his spare time after he got home, he became a watchmaker.*p*Going to work for DuPont, he made many different improvements to the plant here in Nashville TN. He is also responsible for helping in the development of Qualofil, a fiber that insulates better than goose down. *p*I miss him, not only for all that he was, but also for all that he could have been. Since my grandmother, his wife, died 5 years ago, he was trying to die. We did all we could, my wife an I, to keep him living and here in this place. We know he was not in pain, just with a real desire to die.*p*Well, I hope he's happier. I know his children are happier. Even if I do miss him.*p*Daven
