Buckland herbobuckland@hotmail.com Mon Dec 18 07:24:55 2000 A Christmas Poem:*p*Pauper to Prince*p*Winter snows fell cold that night*br*twas sometime ago I remember well*br*as I sat near the fireplace light,*br*half-asleep along a dream-like trail*br*My heart paced the slumber tidings of yesteryear*br*twitching casual smiles as memories returned*br*occasionally now and then with a would-be tear,*br*sighing with long breaths duly earned*br*far in the distance a church bell rang*br*with a meaning not quite understood*br*calling all walks-of-life to a place they sang,*br*bringing me joy of the greatest good*br*But who was I to take a part*br*thus I turned away from them & that*br*while I shivered to keep the cold from my heart,*br*and walked away with the church at my back*br*Yet a few steps forward in my weathered shoes*br*there before me stood a man in white*br*though at first thought I, it but a ruse,*br*beneath a full moon lustering bright*br*He took my hand with not a word said*br*so very calm did all my fears become*br*be it was within my heart, or just my head,*br*his eyes glowed with a will to be done*br*The doors of the church opened before my eyes*br*while all sang of the first Noel*br*and there I was to everyones surprise,*br*singing louder than the old church bell*br*I did not hear when the others stopped short*br*each and all were listening to my voice*br*as if I were a king amongst the common of a court,*br*whose prayers were given first choice*br*My head, eyes, and knees were lowered the same*br*with a whisper that echoed from wall to wall*br*I knew of nothing else but to whisper his name,*br*that was then repeated throughout the hall*br*Thus I sang as the drummer boy had played*br*giving my heart's worth to the lord of humanity*br*no longer cold, hungry, nor afraid,*br*because he gave his life for me, for all eternity*br*-Again I awakened looking deep into the flame*br*no doubt seeing the very star on the night he came*br*having found him had helped me find great riches,*br*so from pauper to prince is my wish for your Christmas.*p**br*Merry Christmas! Happy New Year! Happy New Millennium!*p**br*Herb O. Buckland http://www.geneticengineering.org/ideas/buckland.html http://www.geneticengineering.org/ideas/buckland.html
