Has anyone caught the "symbolic" irony in all of this?  The "fish" was the secret symbol the Christians used to identify themselves to other Christians at a time when announcing their faith more publicly would bring about their ruin or death. ("Fish" in greek "Icthios" was an anagram for the greek "Jesus Christ, Son of God, Savior").*p*In the argument, it is important to remember that many Christians are not motivated by the sense of superiority over other faiths, but by the feeling that the beliefs and symbols they hold dear are being threatened by an increasingly "faithless spirit," and that this constitutes persecution. This is the basic reason for the return to popularity of that little fish.*p*Again, I keep coming back to the thought that there is much more that we hold in common than what divides us.*p*--Beirdd
