Re: Witch Stands up for Her Rights Infiniti Wed Oct 21 18:23:21 1998 : But believe me when I tell you that, as a public school *br*: teacher I could lose my job if someone complains about *any* *br*: religious symbol they might perchance glimpse under my open *br*: collar. We are told "button the collar or remove the *br*: jewelry." (BTW: the only symbol of this type ever *br*: protested has been a cross, but I imagine the same could *br*: happen with any symbol). Last June, NYC fired two successful *br*: teachers who wrote "God bless you" on students' *br*: report cards. A teacher may also not have a Bible in sight *br*: on her desk or shelf; this may not even be kept in a drawer *br*: that may be opened when students are present in the room.*p*Are you saying that Christians are being persecuted? That can't be, there are millions of them and only thousands of us (or hundreds of millions and only slight millions, depending on who is quoting numbers). Beirdd, Christians persecuted "our kind" for centuries, they deserve it <he says sarcastically>. Seriously, I went to a public school that had a Bible as Literature class. Last year, that class was removed from the coriculem (sp) because a slight few people protested it. It was not, by any means a religious course, or a required course. The teacher has since been let go because they have no use for another English teacher. This teacher is also one of the people tht kept me from dieing in gang warfare. The thing that pisses me off the most is the group that lobbied the Board of Education to remove the class and teacher don't even live in the district. Some don't even live in the city - thank you ACLU.*p*: or running Town Meetings skyclad. ;-)*p*Depending on who's there, this might not be a bad idea <WG>*p*Michael Re: Witch Stands up for Her Rights Beirdd 91 Wed Oct 21 17:23:05 1998
